Writing Workshop at Turkish House in Cary

I attended another wonderful workshop on Saturday, November 4th, 2017, at the Turkish House in Cary, NC, hosted by Jacar Press. They have a series called Writers Teaching Writers which brought in Metta Sáma and Deborah Bogen to give us wonderful instruction and readings. It also felt wonderful to socialize again with other poets after being out of the community for a few months.

Makes me seriously consider attending Salem College to study under Metta Sáma. For now, though, I am focused on writing more from all the inspiration they helped me generate this weekend.

I definitely recommend taking advantage of these great workshops.

Poetry Boot Camp 2017

I spent a wonderful week in Aaron Smith's Poetry Boot Camp at Lincoln Memorial University, June 25th - 30th. He gave us the seeds for so many poems, as well as techniques for looking at the lines differently, ways of mixing things up to possibly improve some. Several started, I actually finished up two poems and even got to workshop one.

I highly recommend this intensive to help get you kickstarted into a project, get out of writer's block, or simply inspire you to write more. We had several writers there from other genres. This can help everyone with their writing. Look forward to going again next year!

10-Minute Play Staged Reading

The Playwright Intensive led by Lisa Soland brought out so much for me to work with and taught me greatly about the skills and art of playwriting. The workshop led to a staged reading of the 10-minute play I created titled "Unfolding." This was presented along with some short plays by other workshop participants. Performances were staged at the Cumberland Gap Convention Center.

Excited to announce that I have the opportunity to attend the 12th Annual Mountain Heritage Literary Festival, June 9-11, 2017, at Lincoln Memorial University! I will also attend a related week-long Playwright Intensive led by Lisa Soland the week prior.

Thrilled to have an opportunity to learn from other poets, improve my craft, and explore the Cumberland Gap area of Tennessee. Expecting lots of instruction and inspiration over the next couple of weeks. Will keep you all updated on my exploits.

Time still exists to register for the MHLF. Would love to see you there! Sign up here.
